Indian scientists discovered three new bacterial species in earth’s upper stratosphere. An amazing feature of them is their resistance to Ultra Violet(UV) light.
Since other organisms cannot tolerate UV in that layer, it is thought that this discovery is a major stride to find out how life began on earth even though their extraterrestrial origin is not confirmed.
The scientists named one of these species, Janibacter hoylei, after astrophysicist Fred Hoyle.
